My Son Can Dance

One Mom's Musings About Boys in the Dance World

Videos

Up until now I have not published any videos or photos of Julian. When he was younger, I did this for safety reasons. Later I felt it was a privacy issue; bad enough I write about him and expose him to the world let alone also share photos and videos

However, more and more people have asked to see him dance. I feel that’s a valid request–and what proud mom wouldn’t want to show off her son dancing? That said, I’ve had some trouble getting videos to upload. As I get more, I will upload them or link to them.

Here is Julian’s performance reel, which we had prepared for him as he really got into the swing of auditioning for companies during spring 2012.

Julian, 16, and his partner, Jennifer Wang, 14, both City Ballet School students, performing the Grand Pas De Deux from The Nutcracker at the 2011 YAGP San Francisco Regional Semi-Finals, where they were awarded first place for their performance.

Here is Julian and is other YAGP partner, Jeraldine Mendoza, performing Pas De Deux from Le Corsaire. They came in third in the San Francisco Regional Semi-Finals. Jeraldine, 18, is now dancing with the Joffrey in Chicago.

Here are excerpts from the TDC Spring Concert 2010. (I’ll try to load the numbers Julian was in. You can see him in a few of them.

Here are two of the same dance from two years ago when Julian was at TDC. The quality is not good, but you can see him dancing at two different National Dance Week Events.

Here’s a video of Julian when he was at TDC in 2009 when they performed at the Stanford University basketball halftime show with Project EM. At the beginning, Julian is at the back on the right. During the second section, he comes in from the left in the front. After Project EM, he comes in from the left and is front and center. Sorry, the quality is terrible.
