Nina - so sorry to hear about the undiagnosed injury. My son has been battling ankle and hip pain because of all tha auditions, travelling and continued training at home.

After 2 years of scholarship offers from Boston (and phone calls), my son was offered nothing this year from them. Full tuition/housing from Milwaukee Ballet, full tuition from PNB and turned down completely from SAB. You just never know what they are looking for! He was in NYC to audition for Houston and Austin this weekend...did Julian audition for either of them?

We have SFB, ABT and Juilliard this weekend...the journey continues!

I haven't interviewed him, but I'll do some research. I have a long interview I need to post on someone else. That will be coming up soon.

Yeah, how they decide is weird. On company/school can be so excited about one child (SFB even called Julian on Friday) and the others can be lukewarm. So strange.

Congrats to your son! And thanks for the compliments.

My son went to Boston on a full tuition scholarship last year and was accepted this year but didn't get a scholarship. Weird. I wish I knew how it all worked. He did get a full scholarship to the Next Generation Ballet at the Patel Conservatory under Peter Stark and is very excited and going to attend that one. We've heard wonderful things about his work with boys. Have you interviewed him yet?

I hope Julian heals soon and gets to attend an SI. He is an amazing dancer!

Hi Nina,

Thanks for your informative post about Julian. His injury, and the manner in which it was not fully discovered is unfortunate indeed.
Nina, there is a science-based nutritional intervention that could prove very valuable in supporting and accelerating the healing of Julian's tendon. It is StemEnhance2 (SE2). Please do go to www.vital.stemtechbiz.com and read about it and the double-blind research study that proved its efficacy, and view a video about it, at my website, www.vital.stemtechbiz.com StemEnhance helped me recover quickly from an L5 ruptured spinal disk injury, and avoid what looked like certain back surgery. At my website, click on the photo of the bottle of SE2 and read the valuable information there, and then watch the short video featuring StemEnhance2's formulator, Christian Drapeaux, a wonderful, caring man with excellent experience and credentials. Feel free to call me at 247.9167. Wishing Julian a speedy and successful recovery, Eliahu

Yes, acupuncture seems to work wonder for tendonitis. I don't know why more dancers don't use this therapy.

When my dancer boy had inflammation in the growth plate of his heel this summer, I took him to a podiatrist who in turn put him in a cast for two weeks. It did absolutely nothing for him except make matters worse. I then took him to an absolutely brilliant acupunturist who treated him for 6 weeks. My dancer boy was allowed to go to dance class and could stand and work on his arms/upper body, but was not allowed to dance on his feet for those 6 weeks. It did wonders for his back and arm lines though! By the second session, he was pain free. Our acupunturist is an absolute genius! We definitely feel Julian's pain!

Vicki,
Great advice! While we've had one of his acupuncturists say only heat, I have long ago heard that ice is the best thing. I many a time have made him put his feet in a buck of ice water when he was injured, and it has, indeed, done wonders. I just read him your comment. He said knows football players do this--all together. I suggested at least a garbage pail with ice water for his feet once back at SAB. Thank you!

Did I ever tell you I was a sports massage therapist in another life?
Ice bath is an excellent treatment after elite athletic work and good for recovering tendinitis as it quickly cools down the inflammation and moves waste out of the muscles and refreshing blood into the muscles once the cold flushes the waste. An ice bath at least for his feet and best for his hips and legs for ten minutes after workouts/performance would will do wonders. When I played on the national champion women's rugby team, this was one of our secret weapons.
Simple ice bath formula: One average hotel size waste basket of ice (about 3 pounds), dump into tub. Fill up with cold water. Most of ice will melt by time tub is full. Lower lower body into water. Soak for ten minutes. Helps the first few times to have a friend to talk to through the difficult first five minutes. You can also soak the upper body, but only do that for five minutes.
